Have a question?
What is included in the Structural Survey Report?
A Structural Survey is a thorough inspection of a property’s structural integrity, carried out by a qualified structural engineer. It assesses the condition of key load-bearing components such as foundations, walls, beams, and the roof. You may need a structural survey before purchasing a property to identify any potential issues, before undertaking major renovations to ensure your plans are feasible, or as part of ongoing maintenance to prevent costly damage. It helps you make informed decisions and avoid unforeseen problems down the line.
What is included in the Structural Survey Report?
A Structural Survey Report provides a comprehensive analysis of the property’s condition.
It includes: An engineers attendance at the property, visual inspection of all exposed and visible areas in relation to the property’s existing structural condition, identification of any visible structural defects (such as cracking, movement, dilapidation) of structural members, and provision of our structural engineers inspection report containing our findings, assessment, conclusions and recommendations for remedial works as needed.
Do I need a Structural Survey if I am buying a new property?
While new properties typically have fewer structural concerns, it’s still a good idea to get a Structural Survey. Even newly constructed homes can have issues such as foundation settlement, defects in the building materials, or even poor workmanship. A survey will help identify any hidden problems early, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to negotiate repairs or a better price if necessary. Traditionally the requirement for a structural inspection is recommended by a Homebuyers survey, or RICS Building Surveyors report, in which they will suggest a structural engineers inspection due to structural defects being suspected.
