Flood Risk Management
We provide a wide range of services focused on flood risk management, including comprehensive flood risk assessments (FRAs) in England and flood consequences assessments (FCAs) in Wales. These assessments are crucial for understanding potential flood risks associated with specific developments and ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate those risks.
One of the key services offered by Vale Consultancy is the development of flood warning evacuation plans tailored for various types of proposals/sites. These plans are essential for preparing communities to respond effectively in the event of a flood.

Delivering in-depth evaluations to identify flood risks
In Wales, a flood consequences assessment is necessary for developments located in flood zones C1 and C2 as indicated on the Development Advice Map. For sites in Zone B, it is important to verify site levels against extreme flood outline levels provided by Natural Resources Wales.
In England, a flood risk assessment is required for sites located in flood Zones 2 or 3, as well as for sites in flood Zone 1 that exceed 1 hectare or have critical drainage issues recognized by the Environment Agency.

Have a question?
What is a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA)?
A Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) is a comprehensive evaluation of potential flood risks associated with a specific site or development. It identifies the likelihood of flooding from various sources, assesses the potential impacts on the site and surrounding areas, and recommends measures to mitigate those risks.
What is the difference between an FRA and a Flood Consequence Assessment (FCA)?
An FRA evaluates against NPPF in England and an FCA evaluates against TAN15 in Wales
Why is an FRA or FCA necessary for my development project?
An FRA or FCA is often a regulatory requirement for planning permission in areas at risk of flooding. These assessments help identify flood risks early in the development process, enabling you to implement appropriate mitigation measures, protect public safety, and ensure compliance with local planning policies.
