Temporary Works
We specialise in the design, planning, and implementation of temporary works that ensure the safety, stability, and efficiency of construction projects during their various phases. Temporary works are critical elements that support and facilitate construction activities, allowing for safe operations while permanent structures are being built or altered.

Whether you’re undertaking a small-scale renovation or a large-scale infrastructure project, our team has the expertise to design and implement the temporary works solutions you need for a safe, efficient, and successful project.

Have a question?
What are temporary works, and why are they needed?
Temporary works are temporary structures or systems used during the construction process to support or facilitate the permanent works. They are essential for ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of construction activities. Examples include scaffolding, formwork, shoring, propping, and temporary access roads. Temporary works ensure that construction can proceed safely and without delays while permanent structures are being built or altered.
Who is responsible for designing temporary works?
The design of temporary works is typically handled by qualified structural engineers, who specialize in this area. Our engineers work closely with contractors and project managers to develop tailored solutions that meet project needs while ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. We provide detailed design plans, calculations, and on-site support to ensure everything functions correctly throughout the construction process.
Are temporary works the same for every construction project?
No, temporary works are tailored to the specific needs of each construction project. The design depends on factors such as the type of project, site conditions, structural requirements, and safety considerations. Our engineers assess these factors to create custom temporary works solutions that ensure safety and efficiency throughout the construction process, whether for a residential building, commercial development, or infrastructure project.
Are temporary works provided by Vale Consultancy on all projects by default?
No, temporary works design is a separate and specialist engagement that is requested by the client or contractor. Therefore, we provide temporary works designs on an as requested basis only. Usually, builders/contractors will have a go-to “temporary works designer” who will separately provide temporary works (propping, scaffolding etc) designs for their projects, meaning that we as a company we provide only the primary structural elements for the project, from which their contractors specialist will then work to provide the temporary works designs. Similarly, this is how we are engaged to provide temporary works designs. We would be provided with a permanent works specification and proposed arrangement, and we would then work with the project structural designer to provide a suitable temporary works specification.
