Transforming derelict buildings into affordable apartments
Vale Consultancy were engaged to provide civil and structural engineering services for a residential development on Commercial Street, Newport. The demolition of the dilapidated mid-terrace commercial buildings made way for 38 affordable apartments, with parking facilities and commercial space at ground level.
The site presented significant challenges, surrounded by abutting buildings in the city center, including a multi-storey car park. A creative structural solution was required to navigate the complexities of the site.
Our scope of service included providing continuous structural advice throughout the design process, attending progress meetings and site visits, and liaising with Building Control and other contracting bodies.
