The Vale Resort: A Hub for Hospitality and High Performance

The phased development of The Vale Resort includes several key components, such as the main hotel building, café and restaurant, and a 500-delegate conference suite. Various extensions have also been undertaken to provide training facilities for The Welsh Rugby Union’s Centre of Excellence.

Additionally, we served as Lead Consultant for the new shared training facilities used by both Cardiff Blues Rugby and Cardiff City Football Academies. This project won a National Building Award for Excellence in its category.

As Lead Consultant, we were also commissioned to provide civil, structural, and architectural services for the design of the Vale Hotel Infill Building. Due to the presence of a basement corridor connecting the original buildings, the Infill Building required piling.

The structure was built using a steel frame, with in-situ reinforced concrete and precast concrete floors. The flat roof, supported by steel trusses, was designed to accommodate much of the hotel’s plant equipment. The Infill Building houses a 400-seat conference and multi-function room on the first floor, along with a ground-floor café and restaurant. It provides a strategic link between the main Vale Hotel and Leisure Building.
